Technical Documentation Training Understand and Work with Aircraft Technical Documentation

The course will give the participants the basic skills and confidence in how to use the Structural Repair Manual (SRM) to perform damage assessment, to select repair procedure, understand the repair method and  design repairs within the limits of the Structural Repair Manual (SRM). The course includes repair case studies that require the student to determine part identification, allowable damage limits, and detail metallic and composites repair options.

 

 

Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to use the SRM to: 

Identify specific airplane parts and locations

Find allowable damage limits in the SRM.

  • Types of damage that can be repaired using the SRM. 
  • Identify the differences between repair types.
  • Design repairs for specific damage.
  • Carry out a correct damage assessment and to report this in a clear, accurate and in the required manner by OEM.
  • Indicate an exact damage location to the Aircraft.
  • Be able to divide multiple damage, for example, a lightning strike involving multiple panels.
  • Making a damage report.
  • Proper handling of the paperwork
  • Find allowable damage limits in the AMM and SRM
  • Determine if composite damage is repairable by the SRM. 
  • Identify the metal skin and composite repair processes. 
  • Identify the composite ply materials, sequences and orientations for various composite structures. 

 

Objectives Day 1

Theoretical: (4 hours)

  • Introduction technical manuals and introduction Structural Repair Manual (SRM) Format
  • General Data (Chapter 51)
  • Definition, applications and reference
  • Most common damages, damage tolerance classification and typical inspections
  • Airplane Part Identification and Location; determination of damage location, materials and build up
  • Damage mapping and inspection methods
  • Damage assessment metal structure
  • Required information for damage report (or submittal) per type of damage on sheet metal structure
  • Allowable Damage limits
  • General Repairs 
  • Damage reporting (to OEM)
  • Quality requirements and evaluation
  • Flight restrictions
  • Traceability
  • Human factors, health, safety and environment

Practical Casus: (4 hours)

  • Case Exercise (competence check)
  • Case Study: Identify specific airplane parts and locations
  • Case Study: Find allowable damage limits in the SRM.
  • Case Study: Types of damage that can be repaired using the SRM. 
  • Case Study: Identify the differences between repair types.

 

Objectives Day 2

Theoretical: (4 hours)

  • New Generation Airframes
  • New generation aircraft: zones , frames, stringers.
  • SRM Chapter 51 
  • SRM Allowable Damage Limits
  • Allowable Damage Limit Line Oriented Scenarios 
  • SRM Repairable Damage Limits
  • Repairable Damage Limit Line Oriented Scenarios
  • Damage assessment composite component/ structure
  • Required information for damage report (or submittal) per type of damage on composite structure
  • Bonded versus Bolted
  • Damage Removal

Practical Casus: (4 hours)

  • Case Study: Find allowable damage limits in the SRM.
  • Case Study: Determine if composite damage is repairable by the SRM. 
  • Case Study: Lightning Strike 
  • Case study: Identify the composite ply materials, sequences and orientations for various structures.

 

Objectives Day 3

Theoretical: (3 hours)

  • Mapping of Damage including Inspection Rapport
  • Interior damages
  • Tap-Testing hand, Tap-Testing Woodpecker
  • Thermographic Inspection
  • Damage ramp checker and moisture meter
  • Mapping of Damage including Inspection Rapport
  • Quality control third party work: Vacuum bag Procedures, Monolithic CF Structural Repair.
  • Quality control third party work: Tools and Equipment used for repairs 
  • Quality requirements and evaluation
  • Flight restrictions
  • Traceability
  • Human factors, health, safety and environment

Practical Casus: (5 hours)

  • Case Study: Fuselage Interior Structure Damage
  • Case Study: Fuselage and Door Exterior Structure Damage
  • Examination: Multiple choice
  • Examination: Open Essay 
  • Evaluation
  • Certification

 

Examinations

It will be required to monitor student performance throughout the program. Students will be administered a written exam following lecture classes and practical assessments in classes. The minimum passing grade for all written exams shall be 75% and all grades shall be recorded in the individual’s training records.  

 

The examination and assessment will cover the principles of the applicable curriculum and consist of:

Written examination:
The written examination shall contain a casus based on a real practical scenario existing of multiple choice and open questions. 

 

Reexamination:
If the student fails the written examination, they may request to retake a written examination. 

 

Certification

Certificated covered by EASA 147 approved training school “Aircraft Maintenance and Training School”.

What

The student will be prepared to use the Structural Repair Manual and Aircraft Maintenance Manual and Component Maintenace Manual (SRM,AMM and CMM) to find the inspection and repair data. It includes new composite repair processes, structural identification, allowable damage limits, and repairable damage limits.
